Qualifications:
Competitive salary, depending on qualifications and experience, plus benefits.
The HSSC collects, preserves and interprets the material culture of Saginaw County history and provides exhibitions for audiences of all ages, including curriculum-related programs for school groups. Its educational out-reach is aided by ‘History on the Move,’ a retro-fitted semi-trailer that takes history to school children around the county. In addition, the Museum hosts traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian and other sources; offers a variety of programming from historical tours to feature movies; and partners with area arts organizations in sponsoring interesting and entertaining events such as ‘Jazz on Jefferson’ and the ‘Saginaw Valley Film Festival.’
The HSSC operates from a one-of-a-kind building, constructed in 1898 as a federal post office, known as The Castle Building because of its likeness to a French castle. The 61,000+ sq. ft. Museum building includes exhibit space, a multi-purpose room, library and archives, offices and workrooms, meeting spaces, archaeology laboratory and repository. An adjacent annex provides 30,000 sq. ft. of additional exhibit and meeting space, as well as collection storage. Another off-site building houses other items in our permanent collection.
