Jacobsons, an upscale retail store, occupied a full city block across Jefferson Avenue from the Castle Museum untill 1999.
The HSSC purchased the northeast corner, about 30,000 sq. ft. on three levels in 2005. Two years were spent renovating the Annex and bringing it up to code, with new restrooms, an elevator, and handicapped access.
The first exhibit opened in October 2006. Focus on Saginaw featured over 100 photgraphic images captured on film by local residents on a single day in June – the 117th anniversay of the consolidation of the two Saginaws, (Saginaw City and East Saginaw) in 1887.
The street level has been staged for traveling exhibits. The lover level houses the majority of our artifact collection. Newspapers, photos and maps are stored on the second level, where our curatorial staff works. A research and library space to be open to students and the public is under development.
